Treating IC Disease: Other Treatments
Wow! I have finally made it through the majority of the treatment methods that are currently, or have been used in the past, to treat IC Disease. The last part of treatments includes a few miscellaneous treatments.
External Stimulators
External stimulators are worn on the outside of the body. They use electrical current to treat the symptoms of IC Disease and other related conditions (Vulvodynia).
Laser Surgery
Laser surgery has been a successful treatment for Hunner’s Ulcers which are present in up to 10% of Interstitial Cystitis patients. No other uses for treating IC with lasers have been clinically proven, so laser surgery should be reserved for the ulcerative form of IC only.
Sacral Nerve Stimulation Implants
This form of treatment is a surgery implanted device that is used to help with the urinary frequency, urgency, and incontinence. While these are not approved at this time for IC pain by the FDA, testing is currently being conducted for this purpose.
Surgery
Surgery is only used as a last resort for treating IC Disease if all other treatment methods have failed. The different types of surgery for IC include:
- urinary diversion
- bladder augmentation
- constructing an internal pouch

I linked to your blog on my blog roll and will drop your link into an upcoming IC article too. thanks!!
