For many women with Interstitial Cystitis, scented soaps and bubble baths can be a big problem that causes vaginal itching and burning. For some IC patients, like myself, if I soak too long in a tub with scented bubble bath my IC symptoms will flare and I will have terrible bladder pain as well as vaginal pain.

Another symptom that both IC and Vulvodynia patients will share is the hot, burning urine that comes out and burns the vaginal area.  It is really painful.

Jill, the founder of the IC Network, recommends that IC and Vulvodynia patients purchase a perineal wash bottle from your local drugstore. She learned about this item while at a Vulvodynia support group meeting.

Here is Jill’s suggestion for using the perineal bottle:

“Do not buy any bottles that have chemicals, cleansers or liquid in them. It should be empty. Fill it ONLY with plain, simple water or bottled spring water if you live in an area with hard water. Every time you use the restroom, rinse yourself off thoroughly and pat gently dry. If your urine feels hot, use cooler water to soothe those tender tissues.”

The bottles only cost around $3 and if you are not able to find one in your local drugstore, the ICN Shop has them for sale on their website here.
